Çarşıbaşı Keşan
A Fabric of the Black Sea
Originating from Çarşıbaşı, Trabzon, the Çarşıbaşı Keşan is one of the most unique traditional weaves of the Black Sea.
Handwoven on traditional looms using 100% natural fibres, it reflects the strength, rhythm and quiet poetry of Anatolian craftsmanship.
Colours of the Land
The colours of Keşan come directly from nature — from the soil, the sea, and the sunlight of the Black Sea.
Deep indigo recalls the waves, earthy reds speak of the land, and golden yellows echo the warmth of the cornfields.
Each shade is dyed with plant-based natural pigments: onion skins for yellow, walnut shells for brown, madder roots for red, and indigo leaves for blue.
Every hue carries patience, ritual and a whisper of the land it was born from.
Design and Continuity
As a textile designer, I am deeply inspired by the heritage of Çarşıbaşı Keşan.
By supporting its reweaving and reintroduction, I aim to preserve its natural palette and cultural knowledge —
to ensure that this traditional craft continues to live, breathe and evolve in today’s world.
